Order of reading
Posted: 31 Jul 06 8:58 PM

I'm a little behind on the overall series.

I'm about half way through World of Hurt now.  I read the  Pointblank teaser on the main page and saw mention of Raventte.  I then read over the Flashfire dust cover and came to the conclusion that I need to read Flashfire first.  Is that correct?

Incidentally, I'm starting to really get psyched up for both novels now that I see the tie in.  That's one thing I've come to love about Starfist.  David and Dan mention incidents, missions, and campaigns from previous novels.  This really gives it a three dimensional feel.  It makes the series more life-like.  And life certainly isn't all self-contained and tidy!

Flashfire introduces Raventte and the reason for the conflict to happen.  However Dan and Dave have stated that the two books will tell different aspects of the same conflict with little cross-over.  i assume this means we won't see Bass or even Conorado in the Force Recon books or recon specific charactors in 34th's story.

hope that helps

Good question Charlza.  Most of us have read Flashfire already and will be up to speed with the Raventte conflict.  Sounds like Poinblank will come in midway in the conflict so the logical order would be to read Flashife first.  But, I think it would be cool to have your perspective on it if you read Pointblank first.  The great way Dan & David write, I think you would get a different point of view which I think would be quite cool.  If you did that, post your thoughts cause you would be the excption to the norm.  My 2 cents.

I agree with you on campaigns & missions being mentioned all over the books.  That's why I pushed for character/action recaps for each book.  Dan & David do a great job of keeping all the books alive.  Doyle is a classic example.  Hence we label this series as a Space Opera.  I LOVE IT!!

Charlza, Nobody from 34th FIST appears in Pointblank, the FR Marines operate totally behind Coalition lines. The battle on Ravenette is fully engaged by the time Fourth Force Recon reaches the planet, so the correct order is Flashfire, Pointblank, Firestorm. David
