Near the end of the novel Generals Sturgeon and Cazombi take command from Billie, now was there a reason they did not take command after the rebels attacked the 34th FIST on the beach and were defeated. Or was it because of the military politics at play?
The Prime Master read the message again. This time, by the time he finished reading, he smiled beatifically. The message included a great deal of information about the Earthman Army and airpower and their tactics. This was inteligence that would serve the Emperor's army well when it next encountered the Earthman Army. As it most assuredly would.......

Sure, there was. Also, there's a matter of precedent that goes along with it, like proving that the former commander was incompetent, and such...

But I may be wrong, because it is, after all, Their world, not ours.

Taking command from the designated commander is mutiny. If you do it, you have to be prepared to prove to a court martial that not only was it justified, but that it was absolutely necessary. And bear in mind that the relieved commander might well have friends on the court martial board, and they could very easily go against you because of their friendship with him.

Good thing Cazombi had a reason for it. I hope you didn't do that. Or if you did then congrats to you. You know, the Secession reminded me of the American Civil War very much. And, it was fought over States Rights, not slavery.
