I finished the book a few weeks ago and wrote on review on Barnes and Noble's website (not a very good 1) and i never got much of a chance to do that here, till now. I loved it from beginning to end, the only time i stopped reading it was to eat, sleep, bathe and go to karate. What I loved most was the people on Mylex (don't think it's spelled right) look at the war much the was Americans did and still do the war in Iraq. Like the woman who threw her son's medals away even after he died a heroic death and protested it, in my eye's disgracing the memories of her son forever. If I remember correctly their was a woman much like that who to lead of a protest group for the war in Iraq. Many of the delegates who voted for war changed their minds because of popular vote, much like today. It wasn't just and action packed thrill ride for my mind but it was also realistic and ties in to modern times.

Evil One, thanks for bringing up the Mylex scene.  We put that in there for a purpose, to show that there are other sides to conflicts rather than rah-rah-let's-go-kill-everyone-for-democracy.  Having a loved one in a war zone often focuses a person's attention and we wanted to show that, both sides of it.

I must agree with Evil, it was very well done.  At times it may be a bit misguided (and just as blind rage as it was with people wanting to go after anyone and everyone after 9/11) but the way you two included that was very tasteful and well done.

I want to add my thanks here. Dan and I do, from time to time, deliberately put things in these books to connect them to real life that our readers can identify with. We have a "tough shit" attitude when people don't like it. Such as the reviewer on Amazon who knocked Backshot because it was too real; he said he reads military SF for escapism, and doesn't want reality to intrude on it.

War fiction, escapism? Give me a break. The only escapism in war is people wanting to get away from it to someplace nobody's shooting at them. Dan's front door excepted.
