Earlier on one of these threads, someone gave a detailed description of how to call in artillery fire. A call for an air strike is similar. However, while most infantrymen are given at least some limited training in how to call for artillery, air strikes are normally called by pilots, who are on temporary duty as forward air controllers with infantry units.

By control, infantrymen has training in calling air strikes? Then the soldier tells the pilot to look for pink smoke as the place to bomb.
